Part of my confusion with the program is why we're using tax money to "underwrite" a new car that's not a GM. Shouldn't we try to increase GM's sales first and hopefully get the government's bailout money back sooner? Then the program could be expanded to all brands later on if it works?

God bless you if you want to buy a Prius or any other foreign vehicle, that's not my point. I understand that many foreign vehicles are built in America, so buying a new Camry does help American workers. But if the government is going to be the car business, shouldn't we try help our own business first?

Just think that the old “it’s costing the taxpayers money!” might not be considering the full story here.

Like you, I have my own questions about the efficacy of the program. HOWEVAH, I have noticed one thing: many of the most vocal opponents of C4C were enthusiastic supporters of the much more expensive, taxpayer-funded war in Iraq. Now, I understand that some people prefer that their tax monies be used to have American soldiers kill and be killed in the pursuit of Scary Brown People and mythical weaponry, rather than underwrite someone's Prius trade-in, but these people suck, and they all have their own show on FNC. Funny, that.
