Basketball fights: intolerable. Hockey fights: totally awesome!

The NHL playoffs began last week. Were you aware? I’ve been trying to think of something to write about hockey, perhaps penning a column regarding how clueless the majority of Wild fans are — I’m guessing if you polled fans heading into the Xcel about the Wild’s playoff seed, almost half would’ve answered 2 instead of 7 — but I just didn’t have the energy. Or the heart. It just annoys me, is all.

So, in the true spirit of lazy website proprietorship, you’re getting a YouTube video. The following is a four-minute clip of a marathon fight between the Senators and Flyers. Hockey fights mostly bore me, but this one’s pretty incredible. What a bunch of goons.

Somewhere, Carmelo Anthony and Nate Robinson are thinking, “man, I chose the wrong damn sport. I’d be a HERO in the NHL, yo.”

Anyway, enjoy:

Well, I think that the “Wild Fans” that you are referring to are not Wild Fans at all. If they don’t know were the team Stands against the rest of the league then they don’t really follow the team. However, most of the “fans” in sports today cheer for a specific team because that team represents their city. This is something that happens in all sports not just hockey. It is safe to say that Minneapolis is a “Twins” City. I could give you a number of people that love the Twins, but could not list the starting rotation. In conclusion, this is something that is happening is all sports not just Hockey and not just with the Wild.
What happened to biased free journalism.
    P.S. B hates Hockey.

Ok, time to play dirty you foolio. Be real B. I need to expose you for the sports bigamist you are.. You like MN Wild hockey and i have an email to prove it. Don’t force me to post it. Point, counter point- Its not that MN Wild fans thought the team was a #2 seed. The reality is that real Wild fans could not have cared less about a #7 seed as they knew that Edmonton was a #8 seed last season and played NC for the SC and that most of the teams were a couple of points apart. Moot point now. The Wild choked in the first round like every other MN sports team, Twins included.

I never said I didn’t like the Wild, just claimed that the Wild fans are generally far less informed than fans of our other Minnesota professional sports. And you’ll never convince me otherwise. Go to a game sometime and listen to the chatter in the crowd. Buncha uneducated non-fans taking advantage of corporate season tix. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…but still.

Every Wild fan I know that actually understands the sport was aware the Ducks were a superior team and that a series victory would be a huge upset. Don’t you agree?

    Sorry this retort isn’t funnier.
